This blog will show you how to upgrade your existing Isilon cluster. Recently I’ve been in the lab testing Hadoop distributions. For Hadoop HDFS the supported versions are as follows:
Isilon OneFS version 6.5.5 and greater supports HDFS.
Isilon OneFS 7.0.1.5 and greater supports HDFS version 2.
We did all are testing using 7.0.2.2 and wanted to verify 7.0.2.4. Once you’ve acquired the upgrade file from Isilon, here is the upgrade process
Logon to the cluster. In the upper right corner click Help and About This Cluster |
Under the About this Cluster section you will see the Upgrade link. Click it
On the upgreade screen, click Browse |
Isilon needs local access to the installer file. You can upload it to the ifs directory with CIFS, NFS, winscp, or HDFS. The screenshot above shows uploading the file using the vCenter NFS mount point
Browse to the folder where you placed the file. Click it and click OK |
The directory and file info will be filled out. Clck Submit |
The upgrade begins
The precheck runs. We see some warnings on our cluster. Open a ssh connection to the cluseter and run “isi event list” to view the warnings
The warning on our cluster were due to temp licenses. We can ignore this and continue
After clicking Yes the upgrade continues
We are asked whether we want to simultaneously upgrade all nodes in the cluster, or perform a Rolling Upgrade, one node at a time. Since we are in an active lab we “Rolled” our upgrade. Click Continue |
Nodes are upgraded. After completion the cluster is rebooted.
Once the reboot is complete, log back into the cluster and verify that onefs has been upgraded. |
