EMC ViPR object data services allow ViPR to run object services on top of file storage. It currently supports restful API’s for Swift and S3.This blog will show you how to deploy object services with EMC ViPR on top of EMC Isilon. In my lab I have already deployed iIPR, and configured virtual arrays, pools, and created a project. I will reuse these same setting for object service setup. My previous blog posts on setting up Vipr start HERE
On the ViPR web inteteface click the link to “Data Services” under admin. On the tab there are 3 steps listed to configure Object services. |
Data services for object are deployed as a separate VM from the ViPR vApp. Step one has us give the network settings for data service on the ViPR vAPP. The IP address for the Object VM is entered during the ovf deployment. Enter the data service settings for the ViPR vAPP under System-> Configuration. There are other settings, such as firewall, Repo, etc that you may configure, but the defaults are fine. After you have entered the correct setting for you environment click SAVE. The ViPR vAPP will reboot. |
After the vApp restarts, go back to the Data Service page. Under step 2, click the link to configuration file and save it on your local disk. Make note of which directory you save it to. Download the vipr-dataservice VM from EMC. It downloads as a zip file. Extract it in the same directory that you downloaded the configuration file to. On your virtual center and deploy the OVF. |
